Today was a pretty good day. We had breakfast then went shopping and bought some DVD Russian cartoons for the children to watch when we get them home. Sorry, no subtitles. We had lamb kebab and salmon for lunch at the Slovenian Restaurant and it was quite tasty. After lunch we went earlier than usual to Arkhangelskaya and hung out with Rinat and Zarina, playing Hearts, Yahtzee, and Leapster. We went early because when arranged to go see Sholpan in the hospital. She was very glad to see us and we were delighted to see her and to see that she is now much improved. She no longer has fever. She is sleeping better. She still has a cough but it is probably not as bad as the coughing we heard back at the village.
We may get to see Sholpan again tomorrow. We will send her some more clothes as well as her dress for court on Monday. We will get to see Rinat and Zarina for a longer period of time tomorrow as we have court at 10 am Monday and will not have much time to visit with them after court because we have a plane to catch in Astana. Tune in tomorrow for the final entry. We won’t be able to blog again after court until we are back in Virginia Tuesday night. Thanks again for all your prayers and encouragement over the past few weeks.

Prayers will be with you as you return to the states. Prayers will be with Zarina, Sholpan, and Rinat as they wait for your return. So glad Sholpan is getting better! What a relief it will be when July 1st comes and your newest family members will be here as well. What a great way to spend the summer--getting to know them and vice versa! All is well here, just hurry up and come home!
ReplyDeleteCarol: a proper welcome home requires you to set up the deer skeleton in Keith's foyer. Aaron: have the yet-to-be-named-because-of-fear-of-Ronald-McDonald-Esq. corporation set up to sell yet-to-be-named-item-with-franchise-opportunities product ready for mass production. We'll start drinking cognac. Give the Thompsons a big kiss from us, but keep your hands off my Stalin smokes and crossword puzzles!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear that Sholpan is getting better, and that court won't be delayed. We hope that everythng goes well, and that the children aren't too nervous, as speaking in court must be a big deal for them. They are at a good age to understand the going away and coming back process. You'll be at home for Noah's birthday; first week of June if I remember correctly?
ReplyDeleteWe've really enjoyed following your blog. Both writing and photos are excellent, and there's some comedy thrown in for good measure! Thank you again for the two CDs you made for us two years ago. We've* been looking at them again over the last few days, and reliving the pre-court nerves; hope they get less third time round.
When I say we I really mean I. Jack has a new monitoring role with a global fast-food operation (which shall remain nameless!) and it keeps him really busy....
Jonathan and Carol - a skelton in the foyer? Hear there are several more skeltons down by the creek - wonder what the threesome would think if there were skeltons lining the driveway to the house - that might be a bit better than having them in the house!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you were able to go to the hospital and that Sholpan is feeling better - I think the end of this journey is too much of a whirlwind
The Duke student - Tom Aruthur, not Arnold as it appeared in the Window, is preaching in the morning but I am praying and you know I will be sure to pray for you all. Gotta go write the prayer now - we have spent the day dragging the last bits and pieces out of the old house horray horray
Cannot wait to see you all - hope tomorrow and Monday go well
Carol -- If your taste runs toward skeletons outside the house rather than inside, so be it. But it does sound like you have plenty outside already, and one or two inside might flow nicely with the drapes. I am left to wonder exactly what your neighborhood is like, and whether even Stephen King would get the willies there. Plus Duke interns! Need I say more. Still, anything would have to be better than Ireland, and let's not forget the entrepreneurial (please check the spelling on that one for me) spirit of residents like Aaron.
ReplyDeleteWell, you can say what you like about Ireland, but at least we don't:
ReplyDeleteDecorate our halls with deer skeletons (we keep them in our closets)
or
Dress our squirrels in french maid outfits (even if you de-nut them first it just doesn't seem right, and can lead to more skeletons in closets)
top o' the mornin' to y'all!
